NextGen Dictation That Needs Nothing From Your EHR Team

Traditional hospital dictation reaches the chart through an interface: someone builds it, someone certifies it, and someone maintains it. VoiceboxMD does not. It types where your cursor already is, at the operating-system level, so NextGen Office receives the text exactly as though you had typed it yourself.

NextGen is heavily ambulatory, so most practices running it are small to mid-size and have no interface team at all. That is exactly the case cursor-level dictation is built for. Download it, open your chart, place the cursor and speak. Nothing changes on the EHR side, which is also why it keeps working after your next upgrade.

Why Clinicians Choose VoiceboxMD for NextGen

  • No NextGen integration required

VoiceboxMD types at the cursor at the operating-system level rather than through an EHR interface. That means no vendor approval, no interface build, no downtime window, and nothing for your NextGen team to maintain.

  • 99% accuracy on 100,000+ medical terms

Trained on clinical terminology, drug names, ICD-10 and CPT codes and clinical abbreviations, across 100+ specialties. No per-user voice training before you start.

  • Works in every NextGen text field

SOAP notes, encounter documentation, telephone notes, patient messages and referral letters. If NextGen will accept typing there, VoiceboxMD will dictate there.

  • Citrix and VDI ready

Many NextGen deployments run through Citrix, VMware or Windows Remote Desktop. VoiceboxMD runs on the local workstation and types into the remote session, which is exactly how clinicians already use a keyboard with it.

  • AI scribe on the higher tiers

Dictate a short post-visit summary and the AI structures it into a full SOAP note (Power), or let the ambient scribe listen to the encounter and draft the note itself (Premium). Both land in the NextGen chart at your cursor.

  • HIPAA with the BAA included

AES-256 encryption at rest and in transit, a signed Business Associate Agreement on every plan at no additional cost, and audio that is never used to train models.

NextGen Dictation, Frequently Asked Questions

Does VoiceboxMD work with NextGen Office and NextGen Enterprise?

Yes. VoiceboxMD works across NextGen Office, NextGen Enterprise and the NextGen Mobile apps. It injects text at the cursor at the operating-system level rather than through an EHR integration, so any field in NextGen that accepts typing will accept dictation.

Do we need NextGen approval or an interface build?

No. Because VoiceboxMD types at the cursor rather than writing through an interface, there is nothing to build, certify or maintain on the NextGen side. That is the main practical difference from traditional hospital dictation deployments, which require analysts, a testing window and change control.

Does it work in Citrix or a virtual desktop?

Yes. Many NextGen sites run through Citrix, VMware or Windows Remote Desktop. VoiceboxMD runs on the local workstation and types into the remote session, exactly as your keyboard does today.

Can it generate the note instead of transcribing my dictation?

Yes, on the higher tiers. The Power plan takes a short post-visit dictation and structures it into a complete SOAP note. The Premium plan adds an ambient scribe that listens to the doctor-patient conversation and drafts the note itself. In both cases you review, edit and sign in NextGen.

Is NextGen dictation with VoiceboxMD HIPAA compliant?

Yes. A signed Business Associate Agreement is included with every plan at no extra cost. PHI is encrypted with AES-256 in transit and at rest, access is controlled per provider, and audio and transcripts are never used to train AI models.

What does it cost for a NextGen practice?

Essential is $49 per provider per month for real-time dictation, Power is $79 adding the AI scribe and audio upload, and Premium is $139 adding the ambient scribe. There is no setup fee, no per-seat minimum and no annual contract, and every plan includes a 7-day free trial.
